Energy efficiency now seen as a property investment by most London homeowners

Londoners are among the most convinced in the UK that investing in energy efficiency pays off, with a recent poll showing 68% believe it would increase the value of their property and 64% of homeowners investing in energy efficiency to boost the resale value of their home.
Homeowners with questions about the latest home energy trends and advancements will find answers at the London Homebuilding & Renovating Show, which is taking place at Excel from 18 to 20 September. The show features a daily Home Energy Hour, where speakers focus on how to make homes leaner and greener. Showgoers can also get one-to-one advice on how to maximise home energy, save money on fuel bills, and reduce their carbon footprint from the Home Energy Academy experts.
Homebuilding & Renovating Show energy expert, Paul Testa says: “We’re seeing a notable increase in people prioritising retrofitting their homes for energy efficiency. We’re not sure whether it’s an acknowledgement of significantly higher fuel bills or higher levels of awareness of the impact our buildings have on carbon emissions. Either way, there’s a promising sense that change is coming.”

He adds that improving a property’s energy efficiency rating from a G to an A rating can increase property value by up to 14%.
With the same poll finding that nearly a third of UK homeowners (30%) plan to spend more on home improvements in 2026 than last year, the thousands of home products displayed by over 250 exhibitors at the London Homebuilding & Renovating Show will provide timely inspiration.
In addition, with a quarter (24%) of homeowners surveyed giving up holiday plans and 14% deciding against a new car in favour of making home improvements, the show’s innovations and exclusive offers will prove to be a draw, as will getting advice from the biggest cast of property experts assembled under one roof.
Leading specialists will deliver a range of talks, with sessions in the Home Improvement and Self Build Theatres including: Wow Factor Design – and How to Get It; Practically Passive: Expert Tips on Sustainable Home Design; The Top 10 Self-Build Mistakes – and How to Avoid Them; How to Find, Hire and Manage the Right Builder; Clever Ways to Reduce Costs When Building an Extension and From Old Home to Eco Home -Slash Fuel Bills and Boost Energy Efficiency with Eco-Friendly Upgrades.
The Advice Centre will provide the opportunity for visitors to book a 15-minute slot with a show expert to discuss their own projects and get bespoke advice. Specialists include: self-build expert Mark Stevenson; Homebuilding & Renovating’s property expert Michael Holmes; director of HEM Architects Paul Testa; planning experts Sally Tagg and Simon Rix; quantity surveyor Tim Phillips; design expert & architect Allan Corfield; heating & eco expert David Hilton; renovation specialist Jo Dyson, and interior design expert Julia Kendell.
