SEVEN – THE MODERN MASTERPIECE TO COMPLETE THE SOUTH BANK RIVERFRONT

Occupying a prominent position on London’s South Bank, SEVEN is the final building of Southbank Place, a £1 billion development delivered by Braeburn Estates - a joint venture from Qatari Diar and CWG, that completes the art and cultural quarter of this prime riverside destination. Instantly recognisable, SEVEN has been designed by architects Stanton Williams as a contemporary response to the brutalist structures of the neighbouring Royal Festival Hall and the Southbank Centre.

The final opportunity to purchase a prime new home at Southbank Place, SEVEN comprises 92 lateral apartments and penthouses, with prices ranging from £1.9 million for a one-bedroom apartment to £6.2 million for a three-bedroom apartment. Four exclusive penthouses are set to launch later in the year.

Interior architecture designed by award-winning interiors studio Albion Nord, many of the apartments are oriented towards the River Thames, with large balconies and vast full height windows that frame the finest protected panoramic views of the city, capturing the London Eye, River Thames, Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

Occupying the site that staged the 1951 Festival of Britain and retaining three notable sculptures from this period, Southbank Place is a development with art and culture at its core. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Festival of Britian and the completion of SEVEN, renowned printmaker and illustrator Paul Catherall has created an exclusive pair of prints that capture the vivacity of the South Bank and the new building’s context to its surroundings.

The prints, set to be permanently displayed at the development, showcase Stanton Williams’ vision for SEVEN, which is a linear form that mediates between the verticality of the wider Shell Centre redevelopment and the more civic scale of the South Bank arts quarter on the other side of the Hungerford Bridge viaduct.

Timeless and restrained, the design forms a dignified backdrop to the river and Jubilee Gardens, responding sensitively to the neighbouring heritage context and taking cues from both the listed Shell Centre tower and the Royal Festival Hall in its use of limestone.

The façade is dramatic in its contrast between soft stone hues and strong masculine lines that result in a careful manipulation of sunlight to animate the facade from sunrise to sunset, creating an instantly recognisable landmark on the River Thames.

Paul Williams OBE, Principal Director of Stanton Williams Architects, said: “SEVEN’s architecture is intentionally understated. Our aim was to design a building that harmonises with the Shell Centre, maintaining the same sculptural, solid appearance, while creating a strong river-facing presence to Southbank Place. The result is a building that engages sympathetically with its important cultural setting and contributes positively to the surrounding public realm. It is a wonderful privilege to add a building of such significance to an important part of London.”
