Bagnalls celebrates Paint Green success
Nationwide painting and decorating business, Alfred Bagnall & Sons Ltd, is sharing its achievements across all 16 branches in the UK, as part of the Painting and Decorating Association’s Paint Green scheme.
The PDA officially launched Paint Green in March 2023, and Bagnalls was among the first PDA members to take the Paint Green Pledge to help drive down waste by recycling, reusing or reducing excess paint and recycling paint containers.
Now, to showcase some of the achievements of Paint Green members after the first full year of recording their efforts, Bagnalls is featured in an online case study on the PDA website.
Ben Featherstone, Group Sustainability Co-Ordinator said: “It was important for Bagnalls as long-standing members of the PDA to support our industry’s initiatives to reduce, reuse and recycle.
“The Paint Green Scheme also aligned closely with our own environmental objectives.
“We donated over 3,000 litres of paint and provided 300 hours of free labour to charities and organisations across the UK through Bagnalls’ Community Paintbrush Scheme.
“This benefitted 65 different charity and community organisations in total, including 10 sports facilities which provide vital access physical and social activities for young people.
“Through continued efforts and the support of our supply chain partners, we achieved a rate of over 80% of plastic and metal cans recycled in the past year.
“We are hoping to do more of the same as every increment, however small, in our reducing, reusing and recycling initiatives helps to reduce our impact on the environment.”
An estimated 55 million litres of excess paint is generated each year in the UK – and much of it ends up in landfill or being disposed of as hazardous waste. It’s believed that only around two percent of left-over decorative paint is reused or remanufactured.
PDA Chief Executive, Neil Ogilvie said: “Paint Green aims to encourage PDA members to tackle waste as a first step towards systemic change that benefits their businesses and communities.
“We’re delighted that Bagnalls have engaged so effectively with Paint Green and hope their achievements inspire more PDA members to take the first steps towards sustainability by taking the Paint Green Pledge to drive down waste.”
