“When designing a home bar there are many different design elements to consider. Depending on the space you have available they can be countertop bars, walk-in bar/wine rooms, freestanding pieces of furniture or large bar units that take up a full wall in a dedicated room. Whatever the size of your home or your desired design, here are a few tips for what to consider when you start designing it:

  1. Know Your Style & Design: Choose a design that either complements your existing home décor or the interior design of a current renovation. Make sure that your bar unit is incorporated from the beginning to allow it to fit into your desired style whether it would be rustic, modern, industrial etc. As an example, if your bar is in your kitchen or an extension of your kitchen space a cold shelf to match your kitchen worktops will give a clean and cohesive look.

  2. Bespoke Storage Solutions: Incorporate bespoke cabinetry and shelving to accommodate your specific storage needs for bottles, glassware, cocktail gear, cloth napkins or wine stoppers. Having an idea of what the bar will need to accommodate from the outset will help make the unit work as hard as possible. Cupboards or drawers in the lower part of the bar unit will help with the storage of extra glasses or gadgets you don’t need or want on display constantly.

3. Add Quality Lighting: Many times, lighting can be forgotten but by integrating ambient lighting the home bar can become the focus of the space when you need it to be and also help create a sense of warmth and a fun light atmosphere.

4. Functional Layout: Design the bar layout for optimal functionality when it is in use and when it isn’t. By-fold pockets doors for example can be a great design element to incorporate to allow for the bar to be open or closed and to avoid any obstructions when in use. Ensuring easy access to everything you need for preparing or mixing drinks will help you enjoy it even more.

A well-designed bar can become a focal point, enhancing the overall look of your home whilst providing a dedicated area for entertaining guests, making social gatherings fun and easy. By tailoring the bar to your preferences, it allows for your own unique and personal taste and style to come to life while also ensuring that everything you need is at your fingertips.”
