Pennyfarthing Homes Secures Planning for Development
In Coastal Town Of New Milton
Pennyfarthing Homes has been granted planning permission from New Forest District Council for the development of 164 new homes on the edge of New Milton in southwest Hampshire. Danes Park will deliver a mix of high-quality residential units including houses, apartments and bungalows, 50% of which will be provided on an affordable basis for locals.
Pennyfarthing has created a scheme that will protect and enhance the local environment and improve safety for pedestrians and highway users through a range of offsite highway improvements. The Danes Park site on Brockhills Lane was originally identified and acquired by Pennyfarthing Homes in 2016 and was subsequently promoted through the emerging New Forest District Council Local Plan, securing an allocation in the adopted plan in 2020.
Ben Arnold, Land and Planning Director for Pennyfarthing Homes, comments: “This is an exciting scheme designed to complement the natural beauty of its surroundings and provide much-needed high-quality new affordable housing for local home-movers. We have long believed in the potential of this site to address housing needs in the New Milton and New Forest District area, and through engagement with the New Forest District Council and a wide range of local stakeholders we are proud to have now gained full approval.”
“Bringing 50% affordable homes to this sought-after coastal town will benefit key workers and local residents who may not normally be able to afford to live in this area.”
The development extends to 10 hectares with almost half allocated to green spaces (4.7 hectares), including alternative recreational greenspace, public open space and play areas. The scheme has been designed in a ‘village layout’, featuring attractive meandering roads that enhance the local area.
Homes at Danes Park will deliver a range of one and two-bedroom apartments, two and three-bedroom bungalows, and two, three and four-bedroom homes offering a wide choice for home-movers from first-time buyers and young families through to downsizers. Fifty per cent of the homes are designated as affordable and will be provided through the recently introduced First Homes scheme, along with Shared Ownership, and social and affordable rental properties. Construction is set to begin later this year with the first homes expected to be available toward the end of 2025.
Pennyfarthing has an enviable track record of delivering high-quality developments in Hampshire and its neighbouring counties, with recent projects including the popular Whitsbury Green in Fordingbridge and recently launched The George development in New Milton.
