Pod Point introduces future-proof EV home charger with solar power integration

LONDON - Pod Point, one of the UK’s leaders in electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, has announced the launch of the latest evolution of its award-winning home charger, the Solo 3S, equipped to be integrated with domestic solar panels.

  • The switch to solar energy means users can effectively charge their EV for free at times, giving drivers full control over the cost and source of the energy fuelling their vehicle

  • No panels? No problem. It also serves the 87% of total EV drivers that want a home charger with solar-power integration even if they don’t have solar panels yet

The Solo 3S will help EV drivers, who have solar home energy systems installed, to save money and make their journeys greener. It aims to address growing concerns around the cost of energy by taking advantage of solar energy.

There’s high demand for solar-based charging solutions amongst EV drivers, with 87% surveyed saying they would like to have a charger with solar integration even if they don’t yet have solar panels installed. Solo 3S will provide seamless future-proofing, allowing drivers to switch from a grid supply at the tap of a button as soon as solar panels are in place.

While EV charging is typically cheaper than filling a car with petrol, the switch to solar energy means users can effectively charge their EV for free at times, giving drivers full control over the cost and source of the energy fuelling their vehicle. Over time, this could allow drivers to offset the upfront costs of the charger and solar panels.

Pod Point’s Chief Technology Officer Arjan van Rooijen said: “Many of the UK’s EV drivers will have chosen to drive a vehicle in order to lessen their impact on the environment and many will want the greenest possible solution when it comes to powering their car. These worries are often compounded with the rising cost of energy, which continues to have an impact on all of us.

Driving shouldn’t cost the earth, and we’re excited to launch a solution that addresses the problems EV drivers face by making charging easier and more affordable.”
