LIFELONG STAPLE RESIDENT OPENS SUMMERFIELD SHOW HOME ON 90TH BIRTHDAY
Local housebuilder Elivia Homes was joined by lifelong Staple resident Ron Sear and his wife Sylvia on Saturday 23rd March, to officially open the very first show home at Summerfield Nurseries. The owner of the Summerfield Nursery garden centre that occupied the site before Elivia acquired it, Ron celebrated his milestone 90th birthday by officially opening the development and enjoying an exclusive tour of the new show home, Ivy Cottage.

Ron and Sylvia met at Staple School in the 1940s and got engaged shortly after Ron’s return from a three-year army posting in 1955. The couple married in 1956 and established Summerfield Nursery in the same year, after Ron’s Dad gifted them an acre of land. For the following 60 years until its closure in 2019, the nursery grew to become one of the biggest suppliers to Kent’s garden centres, producing more than 12,000 plants in 30 different varieties and becoming locally renowned for their Poinsettias.
Ron comments: “I have been a nursery man all my life, and I was of course sad when our nursery closed after 60 years. But, life goes on, and I was so pleased to have been invited to open the first show home at the new Summerfield Nurseries. Elivia Homes has looked after the site very well, and the homes are looking fantastic already. We are really looking forward to having new neighbours and continuing to watch the development flourish in years to come.”
